DIY car race scene in a pail

Sharing is caring!

If your children are crazy about cars and things that go,  you will love to try this DIY swirling car race scene idea.

I got this idea when my son suddenly take one of our pail and play him favorite cars inside it. The idea is pretty simple and I just use things around my house to build this fun race scene.

Materials needed:

  • Shallow pail (you can replace this with shallow cardboard boxes too)
  • Masking tape
  • Marker
  • Toy cars
  • Car scene accessories (here we simply use accessories from our wooden Thomas The train engine set,  but you can use any others that you have,  or even make them yourself)

I just told my son that we are going to make a fun car race scene inside the pail to get him excited.  I helped him to paste the masking tape with serves as the race track.  I purposely designed the track to go uphill on the pail wall and then down again to make it more thrilling.  We drew dashed lines on the tape with marker so that it looks like real road.

Then I asked my son to take some accessories to put along the track,  and the rest is up to him. Wohoo..  He had so much fun putting the lamp post,  some signages and trees.  He also put a stage for the winning car (it’s actually a strainer for my steam pot,  what a bright idea,  kid!) and He put him favorite cars in,  and started to create a story.

What a simple way to have fun with the kids.

Have you tried making  a car race scene with your children?
